THE BIG BARBARIAN THEORY

Tonight I am pleased to tell you that an article I co-wrote with novelist David C. Smith, entitled The Big Barbarian Theory, has been posted on Black Gate Magazine's website. What we did is try to trace the evolution of sword and sorcery fiction, its almost total disappearance from bookstore shelves, and the emergence and popularity of the multi-volume sagas of heroic, epic, and high fantasy. Along the way Dave and I, a couple of 60 year-old fans and writers, discovered that sword and sorcery never really went away. We learned that there is a genuine love for the "old-school" brand of S&S among an ever-growing audience of younger readers, and a resurgence of this wonderful genre that was created by Robert E. Howard back in the 1920s.  Please check out our article at: http://www.blackgate.com/2012/03/23/the-big-barbarian-theory/
